Well if that's you, I've got three tips for you that's going to get it crystal clear for you so you can sit down and get a lot done so you can move your business forward. (00:33): Well Hey, Hey, what's up everyone? Welcome back to another episode of the amazing seller podcast. This is episode number 793 and session number two 47 of ask Scott. This is where I answer your questions here on the podcast and I'm going to do it again here today and I am excited. Like I said in the beginning there

But if you're watching this, this is the recording of me recording the podcast. It's kind of funny because it's kind of meta, right? Like I mean here I am telling you that I'm recording the episode and it's just whatever, it's kind of strange. But I also look at, this is our time to be able to hang out, answer your questions, and then get any other questions that you have so we can address them on the podcast and on this show.

(02:31): All right, so again, I really, really want you to think about if you have any questions. But today, like I said, we're going to be talking about how to get more done in our business and I'm going to kick it right off. This question came in from someone that is inside of our brand creators Academy. That is where we are going through the entire process of building a brand from scratch and we're sharing every single thing along the way. And there's a bunch of others that are doing the same. But this question came up in there and I know it's come up on the podcast and my listeners and even you guys might even have thought this, which I have is kind of like, I, gosh, I feel like there's so much that I want to do. I don't know if you're like me, but I can get excited about this type of business.

(03:15): Like, or just business in general. I like to take something that's either struggling and then make it better and see if I can do it or build something from scratch and then watch it grow. That's technically what I really enjoy doing. Uh, so to me it's always about kind of controlling all of the different things that we could do, but what actually is going to move the needle? And I think what we need to do is give ourselves permission really to do that. Dreaming for a minute, right? In an exploring. But I think we also need to get ourselves structured and dialed in so we can really, really get a ton done in a short period of time. Because a lot of people, including yourself, maybe, maybe you have a job and you only have an hour to work on your business, you want to sit down and you want to get to it.

(04:02): You want to get to work and really be productive. Not thinking about, Oh, what could I, I should probably do that and know that that was a good idea and Oh, that shiny object looks cool, right? Like that's, that's distractions, right? And sometimes we don't actually work in that a lot of time because we put it off because we don't want to do the work, right? Or we don't know what we're supposed to be doing in that timeframe and we just kind of self sabotage ourselves at times. So we don't want to do that. But I am going to cover three of those here with you today, but it is all about time, right? It's about time. And how do we get more done? Okay. I have one simple answer and then we're going to break it down, okay? And this, I want you to consider this.

(04:47): All right? And it's funny because one of my business partners, they, uh, they say all the time because I told them, uh, Hey Scott, we gotta chunk it down. So that's what I'm saying here. We need to take this big overwhelming thing or all of these different things and we need to chunk it down. So I want you to remember that. I want you to maybe even write it down, chunk it down, okay? And so we have to identify though what we are doing in Y. Okay? What are we doing and why? So you might be saying, well, Scott, I'm trying to start an online business, right? Or Scott, I'm trying to take my business and go from six figures to seven figures or five figures or six figures, whatever it is, right? I'm trying to do that. That's fine, but we need to figure out what is the path, what is the plan?

(05:37): So everyone's going to be a little bit different. So I'll give you a, a situation. You're in a scenario. Let's say you are starting for the very first time and you're starting the business and you're like, okay, I, I heard that I should probably get a product and sell it on Amazon. So now I've gotta go down that path. And then you start going down that path and you start hearing all of these different things that you got to do and then all of a sudden you start hearing like, well, you know what, Amazon is kind of shifting. It's kind of changing. You might not want to start there with a product. You might want to go over here and build a website and build a brand. That's kind of what I tell you that you should do. Cause I do believe in that. Uh, things have changed.

(06:12): Uh, and they're always going to change, but to be stable and, and have the best chance and the least amount of risk is to really build out a brand. But that's for a whole nother conversation. Uh, but what we want to do is we need to have a clear picture. We need to understand what we're working on. What does the project look like? So let's say that I'm going to build, I used to be a contractor, by the way, if you're new, uh, I used to be, uh, in my father's construction business and I used to do remodeling and all that stuff and I did it for years. I ran a whole bunch of crews. And what we would always do is we would be like, alright, what's the job? We've got to go, we're going to build a deck on the back of a house.

(06:49): Okay? And so now what we've got to do is we've got to get material list, right? We've got to get up, we've got to get a little bit of a blueprint, right, of how this deck is going to be, how it's going to be built. We probably have to go to the, uh, permit office and get a permit and then we got to go get all the supplies and then we got to bring them over to the job. And then it starts with we've got to start digging the footings. Or maybe we've got to tear the old deck down before we can get to dig, digging the footings. Right? So we have to figure out what is the big thing that we're doing right? Or the the project. So I want you to think about where you are right now. Okay. Where are you right now in your business?

(07:24): And again, you might be just starting or you might be, maybe you're a seven figure seller on Amazon. I have a lot of them in my audience. I know that for a fact. I've got people that are inside a brand creators Academy that are at that level. Okay. So they've, they've kind of learned that part of it, but now they're like, my gosh, I'm, I'm dealing with the competition all the time and it's getting harder and harder and I'm losing sales and I'm feeling like I can't, I can't compete. I want to start building this external stuff. So that stuff is kind of set up. So once you set up your, your listing, it's fully optimized. You kinda got that. It's already built. It's there so you don't have to worry about that anymore. So that's done. Okay. Uh, your, your paper click might be running somewhat on autopilot.

(08:04): You might be doing some tweaking, but there's just so much you can do there that's handled right? And then maybe you're going to, uh, maybe you're going to set up a, a auto-responder inside of your Amazon account that will work through like sales backer or one of the automated email providers, um, that works within, uh, Amazon's terms of service, by the way. And maybe you're going to set that up. That's set up. That's done right. So all of these different things are done right now, if that's not done, that's one project, right? So you have to figure out what that is. But once that's set up and you're a seven figure seller, yes, you've got to manage your inventory. Yes, you got to look at your paper click every so often, right? But the other stuff, customer service, that's, you know, you can hire that out, right?

(08:46): That stuff's kind of all done. But now you're like, I want to start building this external thing. Scott, I want to start building the brand outside of Amazon. Well then we've got a whole new set of projects. We, right? We've got a whole new set of projects. We've got to build the website. Okay? Now if we, once I, once we build our website, we need stuff to put in the website. So now I've got to create our content. Now we've got to learn about content creation. Then we've got to build an email list so we can amplify the content. But these are all projects. So I'm not going to have you build an email list if you don't have your market identified, right? Like we're not going to do that if we don't have our market identified. So we've got to go all the way back to the beginning and go, okay, well wait a minute, we're selling a project.

(09:23): All right, product, right? We're selling a product, we're selling headphones, but we don't know what we're selling them to. Well, we've got to figure that part out first, right? So you see what I'm saying? We, there's always the next thing that's got to get done, but we always get distracted with, well, I gotta build the email list, but you really don't yet. We'll work on that when that time comes. All right, so now that I kind of got that out of the way, let's, let's kind of get to it here. All right, so number one here is an exercise that I think would be very, very useful for you or anyone that is struggling with this at all. And I do this myself to be honest with you. So number one, take an hour and look at your top priorities in your business. All right, I'm going to repeat that number one, take one hour and look at your top priorities in your business where you are right now.

(10:12): Okay? And what I want you to do is what are the, I want you to look at what are the, the obvious next steps, right? What are the, what are the incomplete tasks, right? You started to build the website, but you kind of slacked off on it because it started to give you some issues with tech. And then you said, well, it's easier just to look at how to set up an email list, right? Like so you kind of avoided that because it was giving you a little bit of a problem. You've got to get through that. Right? Um, okay. So now if you don't know, I want you to think, think through your plan right now. Think through your plan. What is your plan? Where are you headed? What is the next step? Okay? Again, like I said, if it's setting up a website, first thing is you need to have your domain name, you need to have your website address.

(10:53): If you don't have that, well, you got to get that right. And then from there, once you get that, you've got to go, okay, well where do I host my website? We got to figure that out. Okay. And then from there you got to set up the website and then from there you're ready to start adding content, which that's the next part of it, right? So what you see how there's steps involved, we can chunk that down, right? So it's not this big thing. Okay, so that's it. And, and here, here's the, here's the deal. Um, if you are struggling with this, cause you might be listening to like, yes, God that sounds great. You're throwing a whole bunch of other things at me. Now listen, you need to figure out that plan of where you are. That is exactly why I created the playbook brand creators, the playbook.

Uh, so yes, you would buy me a cup of coffee, but it's over a hundred pages and it gives you the exact roadmap, six parts, six chunks. And then in each, each one of those chunks, it's broken down in there as well. All right? So I would recommend going through that if you're struggling with this at all. No. Number two, all right, create a weekly task list. Okay? Only three. This is important, okay? Now we do this every single Monday inside of brand creators Academy. Every Monday I jump on video and I get in the group and I basically show my, uh, my list.

(12:30): And then from there I have everyone else do theirs. Now I'm going to give you, um, what this looks like. Okay? Now imagine a piece of paper, okay? And I just use a notepad and Nope, you know, just a regular spiral bound notepad and I mean you can buy him for a buck, right? And then what I do is I first start with my tasks on the right hand side of the paper, far right? I draw a line down and I just write tasks. Now this is not limited to three. Take everything that is that is swirling around in your head and just write those down, okay? It's good to just get them off onto paper. It's what we kinda call a brain dump, right? You just take those thoughts that are swirling around things that are exciting to you, things that you want to do, things that you want to try, things that you have to do.

(13:17): Write them all down, okay? And this is good to either do Monday or you can do Sunday the night before, but this would actually be one of your tasks to get the week started, right? So this is like not one of your big three, but it is a task that should get done so you have structure. Okay? And we'll get into that here in a minute. So I write my tasks down, then I write down my big three. So I look at all of those and then I give them numbers up to like five. And then I take the top three and those are my priorities. Okay? Then what I do is I take, and I make some squares on the page Monday and then I'll write down what I'm going to do to accomplish completing these tasks, right? And then some days you're going to find that you might just put miscellaneous.

(14:03): If you have time leftover to go ahead and go back into the task list and pick another one. But you got to get the three done. All right? She got to get the three done. That's a great exercise to do by the way. And it works really, really well. All right, now number three, and this is a big one. Schedule it. Schedule the time that you're going to do this work. Okay. Schedule it. So if you're working a full time job and you're like, well I don't want to take away from my family at night, I, you know, I get that. I totally get it. I never wanted to take away from my family and I never really did. What I would do is I would either do it after the kids went to bed. Okay. Or I would do it first thing in the morning before they got up.

(14:49): People say, Scott, I don't have time. I have a busy life. You know what? I had a busy life too. I still have a busy life, but I manage it. When I was working full time construction and I wanted to get out of that and my wife and I were building our photography business. I was staying up after I got home, the kids went to bed, eight o'clock I would get right on the computer and I would work my butt off sometimes til one o'clock in the morning, one o'clock in the morning, and I'd get up by five 30 and I'd start my work day all over again. Okay, so when people say that they don't have time, it's that they don't really want it bad enough, you're going to sacrifice a little bit of time, a little bit of sleep. But if you're really trying to get a result here, if you're really trying to build the business of freedom for yourself or learn this stuff's, you can build a skill set that will provide freedom, which is another, another thing that I talk about guys, right?

(15:38): It's like we're all thinking like, we're going to build this one business that's going to set us free forever. I never look at it that way. It's to me, I'm building the skill sets that's going to allow me to always generate money online through different, you know, different businesses, right? I'm not done by just launching this business and then I'm, I'm set for life. That's not how I look at it. I'm going to build something. I might sell it, I might hold it and I'm gonna move on to the next, okay? Because I built the skillset. All right? And that's what you need to be thinking about as well. All right, so again, let's just kind of break this down. Number one, take an hour, okay? Take one hour and sit down and map out what your week is going to look like. Very, very important.

(16:21): Very, very important. And you might even want to put on that schedule too. Okay. When you map out your week, which is in actually a step two, you want to make time for your social media stop. Just, you know, randomly going on and going like, Oh, before I get started I'm just going to check my Facebook or I'm just gonna check my email or I'm just gonna check this. You know as well as I do. That always turns into 15 minutes, an hour of you going down a rabbit hole and then you're like, Oh my gosh, I feel like I didn't get anything done. You didn't, you really didn't get anything done. So you have to stick to a schedule and you need to map it out and plan it. Like I literally block out my entire day up until about three o'clock and the reason why I do that, cause then I get all that stuff done.

(17:05): My daughter gets home. I don't have to be doing this stuff unless I had some free time. Okay. But I get all that important stuff done. All right, so step one, take an hour, map out all of the different things that you want to get done because you have the big project vision, right? And then from there in step two, you're going to want to create a weekly task list list and then you're going to want to map that out, okay? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Okay. And map it out, okay? Every single thing that you're going to do when you sit down, it is mapped out and then number three is schedule it. When is going to be your work time? When is going to be your time that you're building the business and then that is locked, right? You're going to do it from eight o'clock to o'clock.

(17:49): You're going to do from eight o'clock to nine o'clock whatever it is, stick to it. It's like going to the gym guys. If you don't go to the gym, you can't get a result. It's just that simple. You're not going to get muscles if you don't work them out, right? You can sit here and think about them all day and watch YouTube videos, right? Of how these are. How these, uh, you know, these exercises are gonna make me bigger. But if you don't actually lift the weights or do the exercise, guess what ain't gonna he ain't gonna get any results. All right? So that's, that's those three. Now I have a little bonus tip here that I had wrote down that I didn't want to miss. And that is, and I kind of already shared it, but I'm going to say it again cause I think it's that important, is you want to stop looking on social media randomly and schedule that too.

(18:31): All right? So if you, if you miss that part of this and you're just skipping to this part, well that's why I'm saying it again because it's important. You look at the time that you're spending on social media, probably it's probably a long time, right? If you're watching this video right now on YouTube, when you get done with this, don't just jump to the next video. Okay? You want to, you know, give yourself that time unless you Lao allowed yourself a an hour to look on YouTube every day. And if you did, that's fine, but you better allow it an hour over here. And then I would say, well, if you have an hour there, if you have two hours, you'd get more done and you'd have better results. But that's for another conversation as well. All right? But what you want to do is you really, really want to chunk this down.

(19:13): All right? And then the last little bonus step here is have a check in with yourself or maybe a check in with your significant other or maybe a partner check in. How did we do all right? We do this every Friday inside of brand creators Academy. We check in on Monday, we check in on Friday. Okay, did you, did you get your tasks done? Okay? If you didn't, which ones didn't you get done? Carry them over to the next week or pull a weekend shift. All right? So that's, that's what I got for you. (20:03): So this way here, you're not guessing and you're able to see exactly where you are right now. But the cool thing is is once you get through some of these, some of these uh, steps and you want to go back, you can always go back because there's always things that we can tweak after we've done something. We can come back to it and we can do a better job or we can improve it. Um, and it might not have pertained to you at that point, but it will in the future. So I definitely recommend you doing that. Definitely print out that copy as well. You'll get a digital download, but I always recommend people printing it out, binding it, even having it bound over to office max or staples or whatever your local office supply store is to pay the 10 bucks to have it printed and bound that way there you have a physical copy, you can highlight it, you can write notes in it and all that stuff.
