…something I'm calling real-talk because that's exactly what was happening when I was taking or getting a ride from my son after a volleyball game and actually after dinner and him and I were driving and he was actually driving and we were having a good conversation. I said, “You know what, I think I’m going to do a Facebook live and we can just go ahead and riff on this stuff and we can have this conversation out loud,” because I had a guy at volleyball who was asking me questions about what I do and what he wanted to do and thinking about like what he had said to me and thinking about why he may be overcomplicating things or just anyone in general and then my son started giving some advice and I'm like, “Okay. We definitely have to let other people hear this.” And it was funny. When I got all done, I mean, the quality of the video was not that great. It was dark. I was in the passenger seat and we were coming back.

We were in the Jeep so the tires are really loud, but you can still hear it pretty well so I’m just going to warn you that the quality is not your normal quality here that you get from the podcast, but I do think it will be worth listening to. And we talked about overcomplicating things, we talked about even himself moving forward, and we talked a little bit about college and about kids in school and parents and what they want for their kids but then also just overcomplicating that process and how people can get started very quickly. We talked about revenue streams. We talked about how to create a pretty good income stream by just publishing content on a regular basis. So, we talked about all of that stuff. So, I’m just, again, giving you guys a little bit of what you're about to listen to and hopefully you get value from this. It's funny. I reached out to Chris Schaefer and I say, “Chris, what do you think?” You think I should republish this? And he goes, “Absolutely, man. That thing was great.”

[00:02:00] Scott: And I’m like, “Really? It was just my son and I just having a conversation, talking on a Facebook live as well,” and he said, “No, no. it was great.” So, that's what I decided to do so I’m going to publishing here. Hopefully, you get value from it and what I’m also going to do is I’m going to leave the video or I'm going to embed the video over on the blog post at TheAmazingSeller.com/641 and you can see the video if you want to watch it, myself and my son in the car on the way back from dinner and volleyball and, yeah, you can listen to this conversation. So, again, stop overcomplicating things. We don't have to. I’m talking to myself now as well. I’m not sitting here saying that I'm not guilty of that because I am but I'm telling myself that as well. Scott, stop overcomplicating things. All right. So, hopefully, you enjoy this. Sit back, relax, enjoy this jeep ride with myself and my son, my 20-year-old son by the way.


[00:02:57] Scott: What’s up, guys? I’m actually coming home from volleyball with the daughter, with the family, and I'm actually just coming home from dinner and I wanted to have a little real talk here in the car with my son who’s actually chauffeuring me so we’re having a little real talk and I thought I would invite you guys in on the conversation. We were talking a little bit about life, a little bit about business and all that stuff and I just got a low battery warning so we’re going to have to keep this short, I guess. Let me see here. Oh, there it is. We got the light back on. This might not last all that long. Buy, guys, all right. So, had a couple of things. Number one, I had a guy today at volleyball. We were talking a little bit about business and he was like, “You know, if I could just make enough money to pay my mortgage, I’d be freaking ecstatic,” and I’m like, “Dude, that’s so easy to do,” and he’s like, “What do you mean?” And so, we got talking a little bit.

And this was the same guy that I talked about before that he was the Lego guy and basically, he was like, “Yeah, but I'm not really sure what I would do. I don’t know what I would sell.” I go, “Well, you might be overcomplicating things. Maybe what you should do is just go ahead and fire up that camera and start taking some video and start talking to people about maybe Legos,” because he's like a Lego guy. It’s a major thing too. I was doing some research just because I was curious and there’s like videos that get like 400,000 views on YouTube and you do realize that if you get like a lot of views and some subscribers on YouTube, you can make like a thousand or two per month without even really trying? There’s actually another guy that does a distilling channel which he was a listener of the podcast.

[00:04:56] Scott: And he told me, he goes, “You know, after I heard one of your podcast talking about content, I’d figured I’d give it a try and I’d give it a year,” and he did and then he went ahead and he built this channel all about distilling and he was able to build a business or, I guess, a side hustle where he’s making up about $1,000 per month. That's almost your mortgage payment depending on what kind of house you have and this guy I think would probably want about $2,000. So, I was like, “Well, you can actually build a blog and build it out with content and actually right now our blog for the brand that I'm working with that I’m a partner in, we’re doing about $1,800 to $2,000 a month in about 18 months just from publishing content.” So, it's pretty simple once you know the formula and the formula to me is always find the market. You guys have heard me say this before, then from there start doing content. Actually, my son just gave me the charger so I can plug this thing in. There we go.

So, yeah, so anyways so we're talking at dinner. My son and I went to dinner together after the volleyball game. We were just talking about life and, you know, like so many people and a lot of parents they’re guilty of this is where they’re just like, “You got to go to college because it's going to yield you the most opportunity and everything and everything's that's safe.” And to be honest with you, my son Scotty is going to college. He’s going to be a PE teacher and he’s not going to get rich on being a PE teacher, but he’s going to do what he loves doing and he’s going to coach and because he knows someone that knows a little a few things here about some online business stuff that he’s going to probably make well more than his teaching salary and doing what he really loves and that's coaching and training and probably teaching stuff online, but again that's four or five years down the line and that's okay but you got to get started.

[00:06:49] Scott: So, real talk here is that you know what, if you want to go out there and do something that you love or even if you don't love, if you just want to learn the process and I’ve talked about this before, if you want to just learn the process, fall in love with the process, you can then plug that into pretty much anything. And we are talking about that. We’re like we just want I just personally want to do stuff that’s going to impact lives and then he said something very similar that he just wants to kind of start doing some stuff that's impacting kids, just different parts of their lives where maybe they don't think that they have a chance.

[00:07:27] Scotty: I just want to give them that feeling that they got a chance, that they can do something and especially if they put their mind to it and show that if they have a passion for it that they can possibly achieve their goals as long as they work hard towards it.

[00:07:39] Scott: Now, this is from a 20-year-old kid, soon to be 21-year-old kid.

[00:07:43] Scotty: Yeah. Almost.

[00:07:43] Scott: Almost. We’re working there. But, yeah, I mean, you've heard me talk about this for a long time. It's like a lot of people go out there and they just try to create the business or not even the business, create the career that their parents wanted for them and I’ll probably get some flak from even talking like this but I believe that and I said that to you, right? I said we just got the car and I go, “I got to turn this into a Facebook live because this is good.” We were having the conversation and I go, “The number one thing you have to start thinking about when you’re your age is that you want to do something that you absolutely love doing,” and that could mean that you just love learning the process of how to actually turn this idea into something or into a business and then be able to do it again and again and again. And then the other part is impacting people like making a difference in the world.

And for me, it's about sharing stuff like showing up here on a Saturday night after dinner and saying, “You know what, I got a thought I want to share and I want to inspire one person, just one person. If I can make that difference, that's a huge difference in someone's life and that means something. And now because of that, I’ve got another person over here that's been a little bit influenced by that talk and here we are. So, going back to what I titled this as what I forgot what it actually was, it was like real talk, go and get anything you want in life or something like that. You're in control of that and it’s the total truth and that's what I said to this guy today. I’m like, “Listen, so what do you want to do? I mean, you’re kind of happy at your job but you want to make an extra $1,200 or $1500 a month.” I’m like, “All right. You’re Lego guy. You love building Lego stuff.” He’s like, “Yeah. I got like 20 boxes of these new Lego builds that I haven't been able to do and they’re in my closet.”

[00:09:40] Scott: I go, “Perfect. Go ahead. Fire up your camera and show yourself unboxing these popular Lego box set things or whatever you got,” and he's like, “Really?” He goes, “All right. Yeah. I can do that,” and I’m like, “All right. Good.” And then I go, “When are you going do it?” and he’s like, “Well, I got to get a camera. I got to get a new laptop.” I go, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. No, you don’t. You’ve got a phone just like I do right here. You’ve got probably a tripod and if not, buy one of those. Lighting, you can use room lighting or you can use outdoor lighting and just show yourself building this Lego figure or unboxing this Lego thing. That's it. That's all you're going to do like just do it.” I hear so many times so many people say, “I got to wait until I get this. I got to wait until I get that. I got to wait.” No. Go ahead, get a Gmail account, get a YouTube account and start publishing content and in 52 weeks, you’ll have 52 pieces of content that could potentially turn into money. Scotty, you wanted to say something.

[00:10:40] Scotty: Yeah. I did want to say something. So, I had a friend the other day actually said the same exact thing because he said, “I want to start a YouTube channel about whatever it was,” and so I was like, “Oh, how many videos you have up?” He’s like, “None.” I was like, “Why aren’t you starting?” and he’s like, “Well, I need to get a good camera,” and I told them I was like, “You got an iPhone, right?” because I saw his iPhone sitting there. He’s like, “Yeah.” I was like, “Why aren’t you using that?” “No, no, no, I need a really good…” “No, you don’t. All my videos and I've been starting to do my own YouTube stuff.” Where am I? We’re driving by.

[00:11:19] Scott: Hang on, guys. Just drive. Shift that gear.

[00:11:21] Scotty: There we go. All right. Like I said, on my videos all I’m using is my iPhone because right now the iPhone, the pics on that is really good so I don’t know why you wouldn’t use that especially just to start out and instead like I told them, instead, these three months that you’re saying I’m going to wait and buy a camera, you could’ve  made however much content, publish it out there, and you might already be 100 subscribers, however, whatever platform you’re on, up in followers but instead, you waited and now probably lost all those.

[00:11:57] Scott: Yeah. There's a Chinese proverb.

[00:12:01] Scotty:  It wasn’t exactly that one.

[00:12:02] Scott: It was a Chinese proverb. I’m hoping I’m going to be able to remember it. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the second best time is now. Plant the freaking tree. If you plant a tree in a year it’ll be grown that much. So, don't wait to plant the tree. You got to plant seeds and to me, YouTube or content, blog content all that stuff, it's content. It's ways for you to plant these seeds and, by the way, I should probably mention my little shameless plug here. [00:12:46] Scotty: Yeah. That was a good one.

[00:12:47] Scott: That was nice, right? So, I let people know I have a resource. They can go check that out if they want to and they can go get it. And so, basically, what I did though is I took everything that we've done through the years. I mean, Scotty has watched this since he was probably two years old. I was building businesses brick-and-mortar, online businesses, and all that stuff, and it comes down to this formula, it really does. It's finding your market, sub-niching it down, finding products that they want and that they need, and then getting their attention, building out content, building traffic, building your email list. Scotty could probably teach a class on everything that he’s learned in the minivan back in the day. I mean, so many things, right?

[00:13:30] Scotty: It’s funny because now I have people that may listen to you or know you, they ask me questions or they ask me just other stuff about that.

[00:13:38] Scott: Yeah. Other question.

[00:13:39] Scotty: But my biggest thing is and I’m going right now.

[00:13:41] Scott:  Yeah. We’re at a stop light.

[00:13:43] Scotty: My biggest thing is about this content and just all the excuses that I hear from it is why aren't you doing like the camera, of this, the lighting, this, that. Like, nowadays really quality, sure, it’s okay a little bit but, obviously, you want to get as much out as possible and you can always increase in quality as you go and obviously, make more money and stuff like that. But the biggest thing for me is like right now we’re hitting that peak of like social media just like blown up everywhere and it's like there's so much opportunity out there and people aren’t using it. Like, social media is going to the next level. Especially, my generation should know this like, I mean, I’m 20 years old and like I literally grew up with social media so towards the end grown on social media and I don't know why people aren’t using it more especially because everyone loves social media for the most part. Instagram.

[00:14:37] Scott: Everybody’s connected.

[00:14:38] Scotty: Exactly. Everyone wants to be connected and they want to be the next person out there that’s big or whatever but they're not putting in the work or putting out the content because they want to be perfect.

[00:14:49] Scott: Right. Well, let me end with that part because that's a good one there. No one wants to put in the work. They want to go out there and they want to click a few buttons, put up a website, and have a ton of traffic coming in and they feel like, “Oh, that's the ticket. That's the magic bullet. That's the silver bullet. The work has to still be done,” and the problem is when people don't see a result and that could be, “Oh, I only have five people that follow me or whatever.” That's five people, right? Make that 10 then make it 20 then make it 50 but so many people they want the quick fix. They want the short game. They want the forex stuff. You want to get me going on the forex talk?

[00:15:34] Scotty: No. I do got to say one thing though about the following and stuff like that. I’ll be honest with you, I have a YouTube channel for my basketball stuff and I only have 30 followers, probably have 20 videos up there, and I talked to him the other day. Instead of being deflated about it, it’s more motivation to keep putting out more content and watch it go. Like, everyone says, you say, you got to love the process. So, as much as it sucks right now, I know it’s going to feel so good in, whatever, three years, four years when I see however many subscribers I have on there and that it was worth it just sticking through it, but too many people don’t have that patience and they just say, “Oh no.” Oh, there’s a cop right there.

[00:16:21] Chris: Oh, good. We’re going to probably get pulled over.

[00:16:23] Scott: If we get pulled over, this will be a fantastic video.

[00:16:26] Scotty:  That would be great.

[00:16:27] Scott: I’ll have to pay the fine, of course, but Chris Schaffer’s with us by the way. Mr. Schaffer and he says quality of info beats quality of production every time. Mr. Schaffer is in the house and Mr. Schaffer is smart as ever. I've always said that so listen to Mr. Schaffer there and actually Chris Schaffer is also co-author of ECOMBizBook.com, another reason why you should grab it because the guy is frigging smart. So, that’s another plug for ECOMBizBook.com. Yeah. So, and he’s right. It doesn't have to be quality. It has to be good. It just has to help people and serve people and all of that stuff but we were talking about – what did you just say? I had a point I was going to make before Chris jumped in.

[00:17:13] Scotty: I was just talking about the followers and how you got to love the process.

[00:17:15] Scott: Oh no. Yeah. You got to love the process but I want to share this. All right. So, Scotty was getting ready. He’s like, “You know, I really want to do training. I really want to have my own camp so wanted to do all that.” I’m like, “Okay. That's fine.”

[00:17:28] Chris: He’s not behind us, is he, the cop?

[00:17:29] Scott: Oh no, no. We’re good.

[00:17:31] Scotty:  We lost him.

[00:17:32] Scott: All right. Cool. So, I told Scotty this is probably about, I don’t know, eight months ago, maybe a year ago and I said, “All you got to do here in this area is just start doing free camps.” Here we are, getting attention again. Do some free camps, tell people in our community that you're doing these camps, and then people will show up and they’ll bring their kids and then eventually they’re going to ask you to train them. Well, he built a little email list, a little small little list. What you got in there? Forty people now? Forty people on the list? Forty people on the list and from that little tiny list of 40 people now, he has how many clients have you gotten so far?

[00:18:11] Scotty: A little over 10.

[00:18:12] Scott: A little over 10 and each time they pay between $100 and $120.

[00:18:16] Scotty: $150.

[00:18:18] Scott: $150? So, it’s $150 for how many sessions?

[00:18:21] Scotty: Six sessions. About 25 a session.

[00:18:24] Scott: Twenty-five a session where you can buy the package deal. I wonder where you got that idea.

[00:18:29] Scotty: It's 30 an hour so 30 a session.

[00:18:31] Scott: Yeah. And he's doing that, you got two clients tomorrow, right?

[00:18:34] Scotty: Yeah. I just got two new clients and then also next week I'm starting to get back into it again. I’m going to find some extra time from school. I’m going to be doing some more free camps. I have another free camp right up next week and I’m going to start following on that trend again and hopefully like get more on these emails. And also listening to you and stuff, I’m going to start doing some Facebook ads and stuff.

[00:19:00] Scott: There we go. Little Facebook ads.

[00:19:02] Scotty: See what we can get.

[00:19:03] Scott: See what we can get. But the whole thing, the whole point is this is and he went out there and got attention in our little area here. He's going to be and I told him, the next three to five years you’re going to be the go-to guy and then from there, you can also take that content and turn that into online content and then from there start to leverage that stuff over time. So, it’s almost like a self-funding thing if you will. It's kind of like where it’s going to take its own momentum and then leverage that by going online with that same content. You’re going to build credibility. You’re going to build authority, testimonials like all that stuff. So, anyway, we just pulled in to the driveway. He’s making sure he doesn’t go on the grass because he knows how much I hate that when I come out, I’ve got tire tracks on my lawn because they can't fit in the driveway. Anyway, we are home. That was a fun ride. Scotty, thanks for hanging out with us.

[00:19:58] Scotty: Thank you.

[00:19:59] Scott: Thank you and, yeah, so just I want to share this little real talk with you guys. I’m not sure how helpful it was. Hopefully it was and the one thing I do want you guys to take away is that you know what, there's so much opportunity for us and whether you want to sell on Amazon, eBay, Etsy, if you want to start your own blog, if want to start your own YouTube channel, I don't care what one of those you pick. Any one of those can yield you a financial gain, and it can be if you just want to pay for your mortgage like the guy that I talked to today. Start a YouTube channel or start publishing content on a regular basis. Let traffic come in and leverage the traffic, put some ads or something. I mean, it’s literally that simple on that part and then you can always add products if you want later or if you currently have products then you can add the content piece after the fact and then you start building in that secondary revenue stream. So, anyway, guys, that's it. That's going to wrap up this little Facebook live in the dark.

[00:21:31] Scott: All right, guys. Well, there you have it. Sorry about the road noise. That was pretty loud. Yeah, we got some pretty big tires on that Jeep and, yes, sometimes it can get a little loud. Now, I wasn't expecting to do that at around 8:30, 9:00 at night, but I said, you know what, let's go ahead and fire up the old camera like I said in that video that I was kind of giving advice to the buddy of mine at volleyball like, “Listen, don’t make excuses. Just fire that thing up and if you help a few people, you help few people,” but you have to get out there and you have to start producing and that could be figuring out your market. If you haven't figured out your market yet, that's what you need to be focusing on. Don't focus too long and I get so many people that say, “Yeah. I'm still trying to figure out that market.” You might need to just pick a market, drill down, learn the process and then just see what happens versus going all in on a product. Like, a lot of people think they have to start the product versus starting with the market.

If you go through that validation process, if you validate the market, if you validate the submarket, if you validate also that those products are selling, it doesn't mean you have to sell them today but then if there's content that can be created, if there's an email list that can be built, if there are these assets that we can build to drive external traffic then we know that we’re going to be okay. And here's the other cool thing, you're going to learn the process and you’ve heard me say this over and over and over again and I'm going to keep saying it because it is so, so true. You need to learn the process and if you don't love the market, it's okay right now. Love the process and fall in love with learning the process because I'm telling you right now, you'll be able to take that knowledge, that skill set and apply it to anything you do in the future, I promise you that. It's been happening for me over the past 15 years, and everything that I learn here I can apply to the next thing and I should probably throw in a little shameless plug here like I did in that episode.
