Why Bill prefers Private Label Sales to Retail Arbitrage.

Many people have great success doing the legwork required to pull of a successful retail arbitrage business, but Bill feels he’s not the kind of person who’s cut out for it. He was able to make some money but found some of the limitations and difficulties involved in arbitrage to be hurdles he didn’t want to have to get over. When he got into private label sales he enjoyed the kind of research, product sourcing, and brand building required and found it much more aligned with the kind of work he wanted to do. Bill didn’t want to source his products from Alibaba or another common supplier. Why?

Large Chinese product sourcing companies like Alibaba make it easy for Amazon sellers to find products that match their criteria. But sourcing products from them also has its disadvantages. Bill saw that if he sourced his products from a common source like that, they could be easily imitated or even hijacked, so he went another route. How did he go about it?     • Hey Anna, there are a variety of ways to find a sourcing agent. In fact, many of the suppliers you’re talkiing to on Alibaba are actually sourcing agents! If you want to find one specifically, you may want to look somewhere like Upwork or Elance and put up a request for an agent.

    • Hey Ernie, Tomoson works best with free giveaways and VL works a little better with paid, but you can do low cost giveaways on Tomoson as well, you’ll just have a lower response rate.

    I’m a long-time listener, first-time commenter. I think you guys were about to talk about it, but what do you think about having products shipped from the manufacturer directly to FBA?

    • Hey Jesse, it’s something you CAN do if you’re brave enough. I don’t generally suggest it ESPECIALLY at first. Shipping products to yourself or having a third party inspection done can save you from costly product or labeling mistakes.

One thing I didn’t catch or probably this could be a quick question for Bill that roughly how much has Bill spent on PPC to get 700 plus sales. This would help me in understanding how much beneficial PPC can be?
