Is there any benefit to placing 2 UPC codes on the same product?

This may sound like an odd question but there’s really some sophisticated thinking behind it. The idea is simple: If you have a potato peeler as one of your products, should you also create a second listing for the identical product and list it as a “CARROT peeler” instead? You’d have two products with two listings and two unique UPC codes. Scott’s not convinced it’s the best way to start but does think it could be advantageous after looking into the numbers a bit more. Business accounting can be a nightmare, but it doesn’t have to be.

A listener asks Scott how he handles the accounting in his Amazon Private Label business. There are product costs, customs expenses, shipping, Amazon fees – it’s enough to make your head spin. In fact, he started with everything in one spreadsheet and thinks that system could still work if he was inclined to use it. What do you do “day to day” once your product is launched?

Product research, product sourcing, product listings, PPC, Facebook Ads – there’s a TON that goes into the process of getting a private label product to market on Amazon. Is it possible for my multiple PPC campaigns to compete with each other?

PPC (pay per click advertising) is a very confusing and mysterious thing at times. It’s hard to know all the ins and outs of setting up campaigns correctly.   • Hi Scott,

    I am having a small issues with returns. I sell clothing through FBA and off late have got 2 returns due to the reason ‘ Product not as described’, within a span on 5 days although on 2 different listings. These two are popular products and other customers have liked them and never complained any such thing.

    I am looking your advise for :
    1. What shall I do in such cases ? Shall I delete the listing if I get a product not as described return ?
    2. Am I in problem here as I have heard that AZ suspends accounts if 4-5 occurrences of this reason happens

    PS: I have checked the listing multiple times and there is nothing we could find that is different from the product.

    • Hey Disha,

      do NOT delete your listing. If you’re worried, I would contact seller support and ask them. Customers will often give you a return reason that isn’t accurate, they simply pick from the options given, as long as your item IS as described, you don’t have much to worry about.

    When you mentioned running reports on how many units sold individually? Are you referring to the Business Reports -> By Asin -> Detail Page Sales and Traffic? If not, can you point me to the which report you are referring to? Thanks!

      Detail page sales and traffic will indeed show you the units sold. If you have a product with multiple child variations, you may want to view the Detail Page Sales and Traffic by Child Item.
