RYB 972: (Health Scare) The 5 Tips I Learned To Grow My Businesses and Live Longer

Welcome back to another episode of the Rock Your Brand podcast. I am so happy that you’re here. I’m doing things a little differently today, but it’s totally going to be for your benefit. We’re taking a break from our typical Wednesday interview.

Instead, we’re going to dive into talking about your business journey and the importance of taking time out and figuring out the why behind your brand, and really figure out what you want in life. It’s not our typical conversation, but I think you’re going to find it very beneficial. 

One of the reasons I want to talk about this is because a little over a year ago, I had a bit of a health scare of my own. During this time, I really had to take a step back and reevaluate what I was doing in every aspect of my life, including my business and drill down into the purpose behind it. I was doing too much at the time and had to remember my own why. 

It’s so important to make sure that you’re able to be present in the moment. I always take a morning walk every day. I never bring headphones, instead, I just walk in silence and listen to the sounds around me. It’s my way of recharging and being present in the moment without any other distractions. 

Today I wanted to share with you five tips on how you can grow your business while living a healthier and happier life. I had to be reminded of this a while back, as I mentioned earlier, and I always have to take a step back every once so I can get back in alignment.

The five tips I’m going to share with you today have really helped me along the way, and I hope that you’ll find them helpful too. Some of these tips come from me, while others have come from past guests that I’ve had on the show, so I hope you’re able to use them in your own life. What are we waiting for? Let’s get right down to it! 

What Is The Why Behind Your Brand?

The first thing I need you to do is think about what you really want? What do you really want from your life as a whole? Do you want the freedom to make your own schedule, more vacation days, or extra time with your family? It’s so important to know the why behind your brand so you can stay in alignment and know what direction you need to go. 

If your business helps other people, that could be your why. There is nothing wrong with that. You just have to decide what you really and truly want. I want you to take the money thing out of the equation for a little bit because in the long run, that isn’t going to make you happy. 

Once you’ve figured that out, you have to figure out why you want this. You need to identify why you want to have your own business and what helps to drive and motivate you. You’ll also need to go a little deeper and identify the reasons behind your why. This is going to help you figure out why it’s important to you.

The last thing you need to figure out is how you’re going to make this happen. What is it going to take to allow you to have a successful business while staying true to yourself? 

For me, my family’s schedule always comes first. So, I always work around my personal life in order to make it happen. Everything else comes after that. I’ve made my business work with my schedule and what’s important to my family. 

How My Health Scare Changed My Life For The Better 

After you’ve gone through and identified what you really want, why you want it, and how you’re going to make it happen, then you’re ready to take action. 

About a year and a half ago, I got shingles. I had never had them before and ended up going to the doctor after I noticed a few unusual spots on my neck. Next, I was able to get on some medicine to help take care of it. I asked the doctor what causes shingles, and he said stress was the number one cause. At the time, I didn’t realize just how stressed I was. 

During that year, I was hosting at least one webinar per week, writing my book, planning a large in-person event, preparing for a high-level mastermind course, and renovating a rental property that I recently had purchased. All of that stress finally caught up to me when I got sick. 

After the fact, I realized that I wasn’t focused on enjoying the moment and was losing sight of what was most important. After three or four months went by, I ended up getting shingles again. I couldn’t believe that it came back.

That was the moment I realized something had to change. It wasn’t worth the stress and getting sick. That is when I decided not to take on so many projects and go back to the basics. This is where I had to remember my why and scale back some of the projects that I had going on at the time. 

Five Tips To Live A Happy Healthy Life 

There are five tips that I wanted to share with you today to help you get back to the basics and find your why in the process. These have really helped me in my own life, and I hope that they’re helpful to you as well. 

Tip #1: Health & Fitness

Your health and fitness should always come first. If you’re not feeling energized and excited, you won’t be able to accomplish everything else. It’s not always easy, but it’s well worth it and really does have to come first. You have to find time for this. If you don’t keep your health in check, nothing else will matter. Take time at the beginning of every week to hold yourself accountable and plan how you’re going to stay healthy and fit during the coming week. 

Tip #2: Focus

I’m not perfect, and I have gone down the rabbit hole many times. However, I have to set boundaries in order to make sure I am able to stay focused. I always stick with the same schedule every day. From here, I also set times for when I am going to check my email, social media, and other platforms. I have a daily routine that I stick with. If you don’t have a routine, you’re not going to see the progress that you want. 

Tip #3: Have a Weekly/Daily Plan

This is huge! If you have a plan in place, you’re much more likely to get things accomplished. This will also help you stay on the right track. This needs to become a part of your regular schedule. 

Tip #4: Accountability 

It’s so important to have someone that can help keep you accountable. If you don’t have someone that works with you, you do need to find someone that you can check in with on a regular basis. When you have someone that you can check in with, you are much more likely to get things done since you know that you’re being held accountable. 

Tip #5: Commitment and Consistency to Showing Up

This is one of the most important things that you can do to see the results that you want. There is no such thing as an overnight success. You have to put in the hard work. It will be worth it and will pay off in the long run. You just need to be patient and continue to put in the hard work. When you commit and stay consistent, you’ll be amazed at the process you’ll see over time. I hope you found this helpful and can use the tips that I shared to help in your own life!
