I'm fired up to be here today and am so glad that you've joined me. It's going to be a great episode. We're going to talk with Dawn again and finish up the three-part case study we've done. I've enjoyed having her on and learned a lot from her. A year ago, she took some advice that I shared about growing her brand. She went from receiving 30 visitors per day to her website to well over 1600 visits per day, which is incredible.
During our conversation today, we're going to discuss a strategy she shared with me that would be an incredible way for others looking to build organic backlinks to their websites. When she first started writing content for her brand, she had no idea how to build backlinks to her website. In fact, when she first started using this strategy, she had no idea that it would work.
However, you'll see that it really has paid off for her over the past year. It helped her to build authority on Google and in her niche. This strategy could benefit anyone looking to grow their brand and gain more authority, so stay tuned.
Today, we're also going to dig a little deeper into Dawn's Pinterest strategy. There are a few things she could be doing to drive more traffic to her website, so I'm going to share some tips to help her with that. We'll also dig into her email marketing plan. She has been nervous about directly selling products over email.
From my experience, I've seen a lot of people like Dawn, who are afraid. They don't want to send out emails that straight upsell a service or product in fear of being rejected. They worry that their audience is going to judge them or unsubscribe because of it. There may be times that a few people unsubscribe, but I'm here to tell you that it'll actually benefit you if you do it right.
During our conversation, I'm going to share with Dawn the value of directly promoting your products or services via email and how it can benefit any business. This is a jam-packed training, so sit back, relax and enjoy hearing what Dawn has to share with us.
The Strategy I Use to Create Backlinks
I use a website called helpareporter.com to build backlinks. It's completely free to sign up, and it allows you to see requests from bloggers and journalists. Once you sign up, you'll get daily newsletters that show requests of what type of content people are looking for. If there is a topic that you have knowledge about, you can submit a query and send over your pitch directly to the blogger or journalist.
In the query, you'll include all the information the person would need to use in their article. So, really you're writing out an entire article at times, not knowing if it's going to be featured or used, but it's worked well for me so far. Typically the journalist or blogger won't write back once you've submitted your pitch. They'll just run with the content you've provided if they decide to use your content.
There have been many times that a person has decided not to use the content that I sent over. I never waste any effort. So, I will always turn it into a blog post that I can feature on my own website. I've also found that the sooner I reply, the more likely my chances are the person will use the content I provide them.
Right now, I currently have over 1500 backlinks to my website. The backlinking process that I shared above has worked very well for me so far. It's allowed me to get my name out there, and it's benefiting my brand overall. It's a natural and organic way of doing it, which Google likes. The best part is that every article I'm writing and contributing to is directly related to my niche and helping me become an authority figure.
Ranking In Google Takes Time
I will say that after I started to write content, it took quite some time for me to notice an increase in traffic to my website. In fact, it sometimes will take over 6-8 months for some of my articles to start to make their way to the top of the page and rank well. There are also some articles that I've noticed don't get any traction for months, and then over time, they will slowly make their way to the top, so it's really all about being patient.
I also recommend making sure to regularly write and post new content. You should never take a long pause or get too discouraged. It really does just take some time, but you'll be pleasantly surprised to see what articles are ranking after just a few months. It's totally worth it. Once you're getting traffic to your website, you just have to put in the work first. I will say that there really isn't a science to it or any way of knowing the exact timing of when a post will rank, but it will work out if you're doing it the right way.
I've also discovered that I can now use internal linking for my benefit now that I have so many articles. It's a great way to help boost some of my past articles that aren't doing as well or haven't gained as much traction as I would have hoped. It does take some time to strategically plan what links I'm going to include in each article to make sure it sounds natural.

Yes, Send Me The Roadmap! My Favorite Social Media Platform For My Business
In regards to social media, I don't spend too much time there. I will post to Twitter and Facebook if my content is directly related to cats and my niche.
I've found that overall, Pinterest is the best platform to post to. It has helped drive traffic to my website when I'm using it correctly. I will say that right now, I'm getting a ton of traffic but there, but I do see an opportunity that I could spend more time working to improve on.
I do create at least one pin per blog post. Once I post the article to my website, I will go ahead and post the pin I created to Pinterest.
It's important to consider adding text to the images posted on Pinterest. It allows people to see what the blog post is all about before clicking on the image. It's worth the added time and will only take a few extra minutes. Keep in mind that people won't see the headlines, so the text within the image is going to be a huge benefit.
Dawn's Email Marketing Strategy
I'm not actively pursuing growing my email list. However, it has tripled over the last year. It's mainly people who sign up after visiting my website. Right now, I just send a mini newsletter every week that includes a blog post from the previous week. Also a promotion for one of my products, and any articles featured in to boost my credibility.
I'm not currently doing sales or promotions directly for my email list. I'm nervous and worried people will not like it. Some will just wait to purchase until my next promotion.
Final Note From Scott
If you're selling good stuff, you should be promoting your products and services. You've got to come up with a promotion calendar, and you should have one at least every six weeks. It's going to allow you to have extra money for an ad budget so you can work on growing your email list.
I hope that you enjoyed the conversation I had with Dawn and found it helpful. She showed up and has stayed committed. She's seen great results so far and is planning to continue building your brand. I would recommend implementing some of the strategies we talked about today in your own brand. Put in the time and effort, you'll get the results you expect.
