RYB 930: (Part 1) Brand Building Strategy Session with OCTAVIO – Content + Digital Products

By Scott Voelker •  Updated: 01/06/21 •  8 min read

I am so excited to be here and share with you another amazing strategy session. This week's session is with one of our Brand Creator Academy members, Octovio. When he started nearly eight months ago, he started from scratch.

Now he has over 100 articles, is ranking number one for some of his keywords, and is in the process of launching his first digital product. We'll also talk about how to help you get in the game and take the first step in order to see progress if you're stuck.

We'll also talk about how you can get back in the game once you've taken a pause or how to bring in additional people to help you build your brand. It can be a struggle to balance everything and hire things out but can help you grow in the long run. Let's get right to my conversation with Octovio and learn about his journey!

Octovio's Journey to Entrepreneurship

There have been a lot of challenges this past year with the pandemic, but 2020 was also a great growth-filled year. Everyone has had to grow and adapt, and it hasn't been easy. However, it's also been a very rewarding year.

This is a great opportunity to unpack my entire journey and share what I've gone through. For those considering journey Brand Creators Academy, the most valuable selling point for me was to have one-on-one access to experts like Scott and Chris. It's been amazing to have their guidance and insight these past few months. I started my journey in BCA earlier this year, and it's been amazing so far.

To start, I went through the niche validation process, purchased my domain, and got my website up and running. My initial goal was to write a blog post once a week for 52 weeks. I got lucky and found an amazing writer fairly early on who helped me write and publish one blog post a week.

Once we got into a rhythm, I hired a second writer so I could start to publish two to three articles per week. Brand Creators Academy taught me the process, how to develop content easily, and develop a duplicate system for how to do that. After three months, I started ranking on Google, and it was amazing to see my hard work to start paying off.

I really started getting on track in April 2020 with my brand, so I'm eight months into doing this and would like to make $1,000 per month by my year mark. I think I can make my goal and am excited to see my process continue.

You Have to Take Action to See Progress

Our nature is to wait, but you should strike while the iron is hot. You can't steer a parked car. There really is no time like the present! Once you get started, it's time to play, learn how to move forward, and see progress. It's so much more fun to plug things in and see progress. You can't do this unless you take action and get started.

The bottom line is that Octovio needs more offers to continue to grow. In fact, if you're in the process of building your brand, you should also focus on building out multiple offers once you have plenty of content created and ready to move to the next step.

A lot of times, people think they're going to make money solely off creating content. However, this isn't the case. The content is designed to help drive traffic to your website, but you need to have offers on your site to help increase revenue.

You can also make money from affiliate programs and sign up for an ad program when you have enough traffic to your site. The great part is there are plenty of ways to monetize your website, content, and digital products once you have them created.

If you get into the physical product game, you have to understand there are a lot of logistics and capital tied into it. I've sold plenty of physical products in the past few years, and right now, I feel like it causes too much headache.

I don't want to worry about physical products right now. You have to deal with inventory, shipping, and the worry of having your products knocked off. In my mind, digital products are so much easier to create and execute.

Now that Octovio has created his digital product, it'll be much easier the next time that he does it. Creating a course will take some extra work but will be a little easier now that he has a new skill under his built. I would recommend a short digital course, three hours max. People want to get a quick, actionable course that will allow them to take action quickly. They want to start implementing as quickly as possible.

You can charge whatever you want, no matter the length of your course. If the person is getting the information and desired outcome, they are looking for, that is what matters most. And they'll be willing to pay for your course if they see the value in it.

Another great tip is to include a link to your digital products in every blog post that you create. This will allow people to have the opportunity to see that you offer a product they might know existed. You just have to mention it. You don't have to include an entire pitch in your blog posts.

As long as you add it in naturally, your audience won't mind. It's a quick thing to help drive additional traffic to your posts and reach more people who may be interested in purchasing your products.

You can always splitter off the content in your digital product and always mention it when you're reaching out to current/potential customers.

Create Content Your Audience Wants

When you're preparing to create a new digital product, you should always reach out to your audience and get feedback. Make sure you understand what they're looking for while letting them know that you're creating a new product in the near future. This will help get them excited and make them aware that it's coming. Don't be afraid to speak directly to your customers and subscribers.

If you've gone so far as to start your own website and develop content, it can be easy to just move on from there. However, it's important to recognize that you're creating something that is addressing issues that people are frequently searching for online. You should give those topics additional attention and go back and pull from them.

There will always be plenty of questions surrounding those topics that you can address and create content around. If people in your niche are interested in it, chances are they'll want to learn as much as they can about it.

Another angle is to do reviews on products within your niche. Not only will you be educating people in your market, but you'll also be able to take advantage of affiliate programs for those products. So whenever someone visits a blog post on your website reviewing a product, you'll be able to earn some money if anyone makes a purchase.

It's important to make sure to only include affiliate links of things that you've tried and know that have high-quality products. When you create product-based content, you'll simply add your affiliate links within the post. This makes it easy for people to make a purchase directly from clicking the link on your site.
